Yauhen Afnahel Detained

A provocation has been committed against the European Belarus coordinator.

Coordinator of the European Belarus civil campaign, one of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress Yauhen Afnahel is detained.

According to the information provided to Charter97.org by another European Belarus coordinator Maxim Viniarski, Yauhen Afnahel is held in the police department of Barauliany, Minsk district.

Yauhen Afnahel’s wife Katsiaryna Liudvih has told Charter97.org that she and her husband went to the bulding materials market in Kalodzishchy near Minsk. When they were returning home, having bought everything necessary, their car was stopped by the traffic police.

Then law-enforcers jumped out of the ambush, introduced themselves as criminal investigation officers, and started filming the process of detention.

After that, the persons, who named themselves criminal investigation officers, got in the car and ordered to go to the Barauliany district police department.

There, they detained Yauhen Afnahel, he is incriminated with “stealing” the building materials he and his wife bought at the market.

According to Katsiaryna Liudvih, they have just delivered the entrepreneur from whom the couple bought the building materials, to the police department. The policemen are now forcing him to testify against the politician.

Yauhen Afnahel calls this a provocation aimed at fabrication of a criminal case against him.
