Pashinyan Prepares Unpleasant Questions To Lukashenka

The acting Armenian Prime Minister said he would not put off the question of the CSTO Secretary General post.

The Armenian leader wants to discuss the essence of the military-political union with Belarus in the CSTO during the EAEU summit in St. Petersburg. Nikol Pashinyan said this during the agitation campaign in the Yerevan subway, Belsat reports.

On Wednesday, December 5, in the framework of the preparation for early elections to the National Assembly of Armenia, acting Prime Minister handed out campaign leaflets to the passengers on the trains and at subway stations, took pictures with everyone and answered the journalists’ questions. Nikol Pashinyan said that he would not postpone the question of the position of Secretary General of the CSTO - Collective Security Treaty Organization, and will raise it during the meeting with Lukashenka at the summit of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. But the problem in relations with Belarus is wider.

“I have said many times that the issue of the CSTO Secretary General is not the most important. The most important issues are discussed in this context. The key ones of them are the effectiveness of the organization, the mutual responsibilities of the participants to the CSTO and vice versa”, - the portal Blognews.am quotes the words of Pashinyan.

The relations between Lukashenka and Pashinyan tightened when the dictator conveyed the content of talks between the heads of the CSTO, which took place behind closed doors, to Ilham Aliyev through the Azerbaijani Ambassador. Then there was the discussion of candidates for the post of the Secretary General of the organization to replace Armenian official Yuri Khachaturov.

Azerbaijan is not a member of the CSTO and remains at war with Armenia. In this regard, the acting leader of Armenia and the official Minsk exchanged sharp words, while the President of Azerbaijan called the situation “an episode of psychosis in Yerevan”, caused by his close military-technical cooperation with Lukashenka.

During the visit of Ilham Aliyev to Minsk, they prepared a new contract for the supply of Belarusian military equipment to Azerbaijan. One of the most painful issues for the Armenians - Belarusian missiles “Polonaise”, able to hit from Azerbaijan to the territory of Armenia. They are already used by the Azerbaijani troops.

As a result of the negotiations, the duties of the Secretary General of the CSTO are now performed by Russian Valery Semerikov, and the issue of a new head of the organization has been first postponed till December 6, and then for an indefinite period. Armenia's management believes that the post of the Secretary General should remain with them.
