Former "Afghan Warrior" Requires Apologies from Brest Policemen

Aliaksandr Sakharuk raised a white-red-white flag on May 9.

Brest policemen do not want to apologize to the veteran of the Afghan war, a member of the REP Trade Union Aliaksandr Sakharuk for forced detention on last May 9. Sakharuk unfurled a white-red-white flag in the festive column, Radio Svaboda reports.

He was rudely dragged out of the column and delivered to the Leninski police department. Later he spent 29 hours in the remand prison. They did not inform his relatives and colleagues, and victimize him.

The activist appealed to the Leninski District Court to defend his honor and dignity. But policemen see no grounds for apologizing.

Aliaksandr Sakharuk believes that the white-red-white flag shows respect to his ancestors who defended the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

According to the hero of the Afghan, the white-red-white flag is not registered, but allowed for using. The police must know it.

- There were no grounds to detain me more than three hours and to keep me in the basement of the remand ward. They got all my clothes off, made me put off my combat decoration and do squats. If you do not agree they beat you.

The decision made by Alena Karpava will be known on February 19.
