The great Belarusian was buried in Wiesbaden at the cemetery of St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church.

On February 15, Belarusian enlightener and scholar, US citizen Barys Kit, who on February 1 died in Frankfurt being 108 years old, was buried in Wiesbaden at the cemetery of St. Elizabeth Orthodox Church.

"Barys wanted quiet and peaceful funeral, – his wife Tamara Kazevich told Radio Svaboda. – Thank God that everything was conducted quietly and with dignity."

About 30 people, including his wife Tamara, her daughter Iryna and grandson Aliaksandr, who often visited Barys Kit as a child, attended the memorial service in the church and the farewell.

Belarusians Miron Kryvich and Mikalai Ramanau arrived from Belgian Antwerp. During the service in the church, Miron Kryvich sang Belarusian psalm, assisted the priest Father Aliaksandr. And Miron put up a white-red-white flag at the cemetery.

28-year-old Belarusian student from Mainz Aliaksei, who knew and was friends with Barys Kit for the last 4 years, covered his coffin a white-red-white flag. Some Belarusians came from other German cities. The staff of the nursing home, where Barys Kit spent the last 5 years of life, attended the funeral as well.

Barys Kit’s friends came to the funeral from Minsk. One of them, Yury Pashyk, brought some Belarusian soil and put it on the coffin. He brought a loaf of Belarusian bread, and a ribbon with the national ornament. Attendees were given copies of the newspaper Narodnaya Volia with articles in memory of Barys Kit.

"He was a colossus, not a man. His character, his intellect aroused admiration. I had the honor to be familiar with him from the 1990s, we organized an international scientific conference in Minsk together," – Yury Pashyk said.
