Belarus May FaceTraffic Collapse

Since February 26, the tariffs for fixed-route minibus taxis may increase.

On Monday, amendments to the law "On road transport and automobile transportations" will come into force. It does not allow private carriers to work under the old rules. As for the new rules, private carriers do not agree with them, BelSat reports.

It is impossible to buy a ticket to an intercity minibus for February 26 - they are not sold.

On February 23, a petition appeared on change.org, in which private carriers demand amendments to the new version of the law "On road transport and automobile transportations".

Now we are supposed to coordinate the route with government agencies

The main demand of the drivers of the fixed-route minibus taxis is to remove the obligation to coordinate the route with government agencies, as envisaged by the new version of the law.

"A month ago, the "non-regulars" began to receive letters from the Transport Inspectorate. In them, it was reported that as a result of the conducted monitoring, their buses travel on certain routes on a regular basis - on certain days and on schedule, but there are a lot of contracts for such types of transportations with the drivers - and this is a violation of the Law "On road transport and automobile transportations", said in the petition of private carriers.

The updated law requires private carriers to enter into contracts with "local operators for transportations."

Fixed-route minibus taxis to depart from stations

Under the new rules, the fixed-route minibus drivers are obliged to depart from stations, travel on a certain route and stop only at specific stops, and also develop a timetable, intervals for the movement of vehicles, and the number of runs along the route.

New rules for the transportation of passengers will lead to higher prices for travel.

"Carriers will have to pay for services to the road transport operator and the bus station," the authors of the petition explain.
