Why did Russia unleash a "dairy war" with Belarus?

Russia banned the import of milk and dairy products from Belarus since February 26. Economist and head of the Strategy Analytical Center Leanid Zaika commented upon the decision of Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance for Charter97.org:

- This event caused a lot of youth responses from the Komsomol members of the "milk front" - they say, the decision is political. They talk about the "milk war" and "political show".

But given that Russia is to hold presidential election in almost two weeks, Putin does not need such a "show". Moreover - it is harmful. If you consider that it was Sobchak, Grudinin or someone else, this "version" can be discussed. But this is also stupid.

If we figure out the situation thoroughly, then the ban affected what comes from Belarus as raw materials for the Russian dairy enterprises. And this just echoes the recent speech of Grudinin, when he said that the "successes" of dairy production in Russia are the African palm oil and the milk powder from Belarus. That is, Russia wants to switch to its own raw materials.

As for the ready-made, packaged and bottled products from Belarus, they should not be forbidden: they are allegedly "not there" anyway. Compared with the situation 5-10 years ago, the Belarusian products almost disappeared from Russia's trade networks. Therefore, we do not need to sound an alarm, let's drink our own milk.

This should have happened long ago. In general, if we do not play the fool and do not listen to the speeches of our idiots running under the government, it becomes clear that the development of the EEA market leads to the decrease in the share of Belarus in it. Soon only highly competitive Belarusian producers will remain, which are not so many.

I do not know who made grand plans and wanted to flood Russia with meat, milk, but nothing of the kind can ever happen in the reality. In Russia, there is a very strong association of dairy producers. It will crush any mosquito, even if it is Belarusian. It will force us to sell our enterprises. The Belarusian dairy production will surrender and go into captivity in the end.

So this is not a "milk war". This is the result of the development of a common dairy market. And Russia very rigidly positions itself as a dominant producer at it. And while they are whining in Minsk, everything will be over. We will drink milk ourselves.

- Meanwhile, Belarus's representative in the EEC Siarhei Sidorski has already thrown himself on a pill box and announced Russia's decision illegal...

- Sidorski! That train specialist... Well, what else can he say, as a representative of Belarus? Does he want to be ousted from the EEC by Lukashenka personally? He is there to protect his master.

He should have said more. He had to come up with the idea that we took milk samples and sent them to Vienna, sent them to Sweden and now we demand international quality control. Moreover, taking into account the Olympic Games, Sidorski should have said: it reminds the actions of WADA and the "fight" against the Russian Olympians. Or accuse the Russians that they were looking for muldonium in the Belarusian milk. To call for the fact that the Belarusian milk is the best in the world. Call Lukashenka so that he would send cans with cream, with milk, and give them to the Russians to try free of charge in the Red Square.

What is the point of saying something, calling for something here? Put on the table the materials of biochemical analysis, organic analysis, DNA, microflora ... Other wise it looks like: Vasya said, Petya responded.

- You mean, the Belarusian agricultural-productive complex, which is living on subsidies already, faces even harder times?

- It is already falling apart under the blow of Russian producers. The Belarusian products on the market of the EAEU are disappearing.

And how would you want it to happen? They are blabbering about our "achievements" only on the official channels. I understand that it's easier to talk about flights to space and the Bolshoi Theater. Now there will be the real Bolshoi Theater to them: the strong will eat the weak. In Russia, there are very powerful and large farms - both farmers' and shareholding. All this will lead to the fact that about 40 per cent of Belarusian farms will simply be ruined, and another 30-40 percent will go to the hands of Russian producers.

As an economist, I do not see any disharmony. This is what happens if you start making a common space. Once I warned the "integrators" about this. Guys, you said that you do not care? Well, now blow on the milk!

- However, Lukashenka said many times that he would "raise the village". How will he justify himself now?

- He has nothing to do. Apart from saying "These were the bastards from the east".

If Lukashenka likes it, if Kolya advises him so, he can try producing milk directly of grass, bypassing the cow stage. And call it "the magistral way". We will produce milk without a cow. Why not making fools out of Belarusian people once again?
