The BNC leader informed the Minsk City Executive Committee about the march on March 25.
It is stated in the letter of Belarusian National Congress leader Mikalai Statkevich, which has been handed over to the capital authorities, the BNC press service reports:
– According to law guaranteed by Article 35 of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and international agreements signed by our country, I would like to inform you of the Belarusian National Congress’ intention to hold a March of Dignity and Freedom, timed to coincide with the hundredth anniversary of the proclamation of independence of the Belarusian People's Republic, on March 25. The event starts at Yakub Kolas square in Minsk at 12.00. The march will be held to the venue of the festive concert near the Opera House, the document says.
Mikalai Statkevich stresses that there is no legally elected parliament in Belarus and, accordingly, a legitimate procedure for implementing the constitutional right to freedom of rallies and demonstrations. Therefore, in accordance with the practice adopted in neighboring countries, the BNC leader informs of the intention to conduct the March of Dignity and Freedom five days before it is held.
– I demand to fulfill the requirements of the Constitution and ensure an unhindered and safe holding of the mass event, – Mikalai Statkevich writes.
We remind that on March 25, a government-sanctioned holiday concert and a rally will be held near the Opera House in Minsk. The rally-concert will be held from 14.00 to 19.00, the concert will start at 15:00.
