Rural Council From Near Mahiliou Mixes Up 100th Anniversary Of BPR And February 23

And mistakenly announced awarding of medals aimed to coincide with the proclamation of the Belarusian People's Republic.

On February 27, "the language inspector" Sluchak sent to the Pashkouski rural council, Mahiliou district a request for the planned activities on the occasion of the anniversary of the Belarusian People's Republic.

The official response to it, signed by the acting chairperson of the rural council Ms. Dzemiankova, says the following:

"To your request, our Pashkouski rural executive committee reports that on the 100th year of the proclamation of the Belarusian People's Republic the committee awarded three medals."

The copy of the official letter got viral on the social networks.

"I was surprised by this answer, - Ihar Sluchak tells Radio Liberty. - Usually, there are reports that no activities are planned to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the BPR; or, in some cases, it is reported that the events will take place in libraries, or in educational institutions.

As for the case of the Pashkouski executive committee, they reported awarding medals. I think here we are dealing with either some mistake - the people in that middle of nowhere mixed 100th years of the BPR with 100 years of the Byelorussian SSR or the Soviet Army, or it was such a ridiculous joke of the management of the executive committee, which was made in the official form and sealed.

Anyway, it is an occasion for the next appeal - it is necessary to find out what medals were awarded, to whom and for what. Maybe we do not know, but there are still alive veterans of the Slutsk uprising in Pashkova, or soldiers of the Bulak-Balakhovich's Special Unit of the BPR, so our Ministry of Defense has awarded them commemorative medals. "

Acting chairperson of the rural executive committee Volha Dzemiankova explained to Radio Liberty that there was a mistake in the official letter.

"We awarded 3 medals on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus", - Volha says. According to her, the medals were given in the local military enlistment office, and they awarded them to war veterans.

Officially, this year the armed forces of the Republic of Belarus turn 100 years.

How come Ihar Sluchak received an official response with such content?

"Probably, the executive clerk mistranslated something," - Volha Dzemiankova says.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Belarusian People's Republic, the Pashkouski rural council has planned no activities.
