Dead Baby's Father Achieves Additional Inspection Of Homel Maternity Clinic
SIARHEI BASHMUR

Siarhei Bashmur held a picket.

Homel resident Siarhei Bashmur successfully achieved cancellation of the decision of the Investigatory Committee not to initiate criminal proceedings on the fact of death of his newborn son in the maternity clinic. An additional inspection has been appointed, Radio Liberty reports.

Deputy public prosecutor of the city of Homel Vital Savenchuk notified Bashmur about this in the written form.

"The previous inspection was incomplete. I have a right to know what happened to my son, when they took him away from his mother, what vaccines he was injected, and whether they monitored his health condition properly. I want women not to be terrified of giving birth", - Siarhei says.

According to Siarhei, his wife Tatsiana went through all the necessary examinations, followed all the recommendations of the doctors. The spouses named their son Mikhail. After the birth he was with the mother for two day, but suddenly felt bad. The doctors took him to the intensive care department and on the sixth day he died.

It happened in the regional maternity clinic in June 2017. The doctors came to the conclusion that the baby died because of some prenatal infection. Having checked the incident, the Investigatory Committee resolved not to initiate criminal proceedings.

Such response, however, did not satisfy the parents. Siarhei Bashmur started filing complaints to various instances and even held one-person pickets, protesting against the routines in the maternity clinic and vague explanations of the doctors. The dead baby's father was also outraged when the medical management called the cost of the baby's stay in the intensive care department - $ 1000 per day.
