Activists Call To Write Letters To Political Prisoners

Political prisoners need our solidarity.

Public activist Maryna Nasenka, a friend of the political prisoner, has written on Facebook:

– Note to self, the new address of Dzmitry Palienka during his stay at the hospital in Zhodzina:

Dzmitry Palienka

room 109, 22а Savietskaya street

remand prison No. 8

Zhodzina

222160

We remind that Dzmitry Palienka is a social activist from Minsk. His participation in the peaceful cycling Critical Mass event, which took place on April 29, 2016 in Minsk and was interrupted by the police, became the reason for the criminal prosecution.

On October 12, 2016, the court of the Tsentralny District of Minsk found him guilty of committing a crime under Article 364 of the Criminal Code ("violence or threat of violence against members of the internal affairs bodies") and Part 2 of Article 343 of the Criminal Code. As a result, Palienko was sentenced to two years in prison with suspension for two years.

On April 7, 2017, the court of the Zavadski district of Minsk considered the submission of the body monitoring the behavior of the convict (most likely, the Zavadski District Internal Affairs Directorate), and the postponement of the punishment execution was canceled. In this regard, without the right to appeal, the activist was sent to a penal colony to serve the sentence of 1.5 years of imprisonment (taking into account the time spent in pre-trial detention in 2016).

Human rights defenders have recognized Dzmitry Palienka as a political prisoner.
