Lukashenka: Governors Should Put Same Focus On Sports Development As Sowing Campaign

The dictator ordered the governors to pay more attention to ice arenas and skating rinks.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka called on the regional top officials to pay more attention to sports, at a meeting held to discuss the development of winter sports.

According to the dictator, the governors should focus on the development of sports in the regions no less than on the sowing campaign. “This is their job. Just like the sowing campaign, just like sports to which we should be paying close attention,”

The officials in charge in the government and Lukashenka's Administration have been instructed to define the criteria for every region to develop summer and winter sports. “We will then assess the work of the governors,” - the ruler said.

He blamed the heads of regions for not taking the initiative and neglecting sports. “Don't you see that we should do this? This is our job. At the end of the day, this is about people's health. I think this is my last conversation with the governors on this topic,” - Lukashenka added.

The dictator noted that although there are ice arenas and ice rinks in many cities, they are not used to train young athletes. “Why these ice rinks are not used to set up ice hockey schools or teams that would play in the Belarusian championship? Provide the conditions for good ice hockey players. In two years, there will be thousands of them,” - he added.
