A real national holiday has come to Armenia.

On the 11th day of peaceful protests in Armenia, Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan resigned. The "velvet revolution", the beginning of which leader of the protests Nikol Pashinyan announced, won.

Scientist-physicist, one of the leaders of the democratic movement in Armenia in the 1990s, former deputy of the Supreme Council of the Republic and former Armenian Ambassador to Russia Stepan Grigoryan commented on the victory of the Armenian people for Charter97.org:

- It is very important that we correctly predicted the inevitability of the change of power in Armenia. It is great that it happened in a peaceful way.

Now in Yerevan a real holiday has begun. People lay the tables right in the city streets.

Thousands of young people with national flags, car drivers greet passers-by, parents walk with children. The people of Armenia got rid of a small dictator. I think that this day will become a national holiday.

You know, the victory was inevitable, but it was accelerated by the transition to the opposition side of the police and the military.

Yesterday I was arrested while participating in a peaceful protest, but I saw in the eyes of the police that they understood the incorrectness of their actions.

Today there was a very remarkable event. Peacekeeping troops moved to the side of the people. Armenia participates in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon. They are very strong and prepared. The peacekeepers surrendered their weapons, went over to the side of the people and marched through the streets of Yerevan in a huge column.

I want to note that Armenia's return to the democratic path is a huge plus for the whole of Europe. This is an important event for Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova, which have already chosen the European way of development.

The process of democratization of the post-Soviet space is inevitable.
