Maksim Vinyarski: Key to Changes Is the Awareness of Citizens of the Simple Fact

At any moment the familiar dictator's scenario can fail.

Coordinator of the European Belarus campaign Maksim Vinyarski wrote about it on Facebook.

"Sometimes, it's entertaining to observe how the state of the society drastically changes. You can see the ruler who does not want to give up on the throne, his opponents on streets of cities and towns, arrests of opposition leaders instead of meaningful negotiations.

But something went beyond the typical scenario for us. Instead of dispersing and pouring dirt on Nikol Pashinyan, blaming him for their own cowardice, accusing him of "throwing people under batons" and "failure to ensure safety", the Armenians continued their resistance. Their blocked the traffic, state institutions and faced water canons in the city. They kept requiring to free their leaders, otherwise the situation would worsen. And they won.

Following the events in Ukraine, Armenia and other states, you understand that the awareness of the fact is the key to changes: freedom and the right to choose your way are worth casualties. The sooner we get it, the less casualties appear. Standing on knees can only contribute to the new yoke, which is even heavier than the previous one.

And we, brothers-Belarusians, have barely used only 5% of non-violent ways of resistance."
