The disease was officially registered in three regions.

In Belarus, about 40 cases of measles have been reported in the Hrodna, Brest and Homel regions.

According to tut.by, the journalists learned this from Deputy Chief of the department of hygiene, epidemiology and prophylactic of the Ministry of Health Ina Karaban.

11 cases of measles have been registered in the Homel region, 1 - in the Brest region, and 28 cases - in the Hrodna region.

The first case of measles in the country was recorded in Vaukavysk in a five-year-old girl in late February. She was not vaccinated, as her parents refused to vaccinate the child. According to Ina Karaban, the source of the infection was never found. That is, the child could contact with a person who had acute respiratory infection symptoms, somewhere. Measles at the beginning of the disease manifests itself as ARVI, and no one suspects measles if a person has not been abroad.

In Vaukavysk, the last time a measles case was recorded was March 17. Since then, there have been no new facts in the Hrodna region. The virus, which was identified in Vaukavysk, had not previously circulated in our country. As for the Homel region, the virus got there from Odesa. The first patient was on vacation there with his family, the man is a resident of Zhlobin.

Measles is an aerosol infection: to get sick, it's enough to stay in one room with someone who has already fallen ill. The incubation period (from the moment of infection to the onset of symptoms) is 10-18 days, the maximum period being 21 days.

For 2016-2017 the coverage of preventive vaccinations in Belarus was 98%. This exceeds the recommended level of the World Health Organization of 97% of children.

Last year we had one case of imported measles. He did not receive the spread due to high coverage with preventive vaccinations.

The national calendar assumes preventive vaccinations against measles at 1 year and at 6 years old. Two vaccinations ensure proper protection. Doctors advise that if there is no information about vaccinations, or if only one measles vaccination is known, or you have not had measles before, it is worthwhile to vaccinate even an adult not later than a month before traveling to another country where the epidemiological situation is now unfavorable. For example, Ukraine and the EU countries.

If you have a fever, there is a rash, sore throat, cough, the mucous eye has become inflamed, you need to see a doctor immediately. And if you previously were in the EU or Ukraine, this should also be told to the doctor.

An unfavorable situation with regard to measles occurs in Ukraine, Serbia, Romania, Italy, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Latvia, Poland, France and Sweden.

In general, over the past year in Europe more than 20 thousand cases of measles were recorded, about 40 of them - with a fatal outcome. The greatest number of cases of measles in 2017 was noted in Italy (5004) and Romania (5560). More than 60% of cases are people under the age of 20. Over 80% of cases were in patients not vaccinated against measles, which caused the spread of the infection in Europe. The main reason for the low coverage of preventive measles vaccination in selected European countries was the increase in the number of refusals from vaccinations that began in 2010.
