Leanid Zaika: Lukashenka's Post Is Thing Of Past

Such rulers are just doomed.

Strategy analytical center head Leanid Zaika said that in his interview to primus.by:

"The whole Soviet Union was a country of idiots. There was a continuous envy of the West in the 1980s. But it could not have been otherwise: there were coupons to buy meat in the USSR – "one and a half kilograms of bones per person."

What was the essence of the Soviet foolishness? The West had reached its abundance of consumer goods thanks to the market. And the presidential power – the presidency – was considered a formally successful form of political organization there. The Russians fell for it because they always compare themselves only with Swaziland and America. So they did it in the American way – they introduced the post of president.

Moreover, it was suitable for the former Soviet republics: you were the first secretary – and became the president. And the trend caught on. It worked for 25 years, and then people saw that those presidents were not presidents at all, but ordinary thieves. That the authorities were not authorities, but a disguised nomenclature. That nothing had happened, other than the nomenklatura had started to live abroad for the money that used to be spent on health care and education.

The post of the president is a thing of the past. It's high time for Belarus to abandon it. Privately, I recommend Lukashenka to initiate a parliamentary republic in the country and resign.

All these post-Soviet presidents – they just leave a minefield behind. Do we need such politicians, following whom one is tripping mines only? We gave the tale about the western store, in which there 40 thousand goods, a try – and that's enough. In general, the market itself will provide the economy with goods – just do not interfere. Regardless of whether there is a president or not.

I call these presidents "sole traders". They are individual producers. They have neither their own capital nor a joint-stock company. They are all doomed, like any other sole traders.

Why were all these experiments conducted? For 27 years, the country was just being siphoned off.

Some people ask: if Lukashenka resigns (and he has said that he will go to live to Polynesia), who will be there in his place?
