Belarusians "vote with their feet" and boycott modern slavery.

Walk Free Foundation published the latest issue of the Global Index of Slavery.

Belarus takes the 20th place in anti-rating among 167 countries. According to human rights activists, 103,000 people, or 1% of the country's population, are in servitude.

How not to become a hostage to the system and kill a slave in yourself – the website Charter.org addressed this question to the activist of the civil campaign European Belarus, the Brest leader of the Belarusian National Congress Andrei Sharenda.

– I believe that the figure that human rights activists voiced does not reflect the reality.

I think that all those who work in public work can be considered slaves, because there is a contract system in Belarus. Also, tens of thousands of university graduates, who are forced to work on the distribution for a penny, can be called slaves.

I know the situation in rural areas well, where people work for beggarly wages from early morning until late at night. This is also a kind of slavery. Many do not have the opportunity to move to the city. Therefore, I am very critical of this figure. There are much more slaves in Belarus.

If the authorities can not provide a decent life to their citizens, then why would we need such power?

The Belarusians have already begun to look for work abroad and "vote with their feet" against Lukashenka's policy. The markets of Poland and the Czech Republic are open to our compatriots. You can easily find a job there for decent money. Therefore, the best way out of this situation is to boycott slavish working conditions. Especially it relates to young specialists. After all, postgraduate work assignment is a waste of years.
