Three Figures On Belarusian Economy, Which Determine "Hard Landing"

Officials only pretend that the salary in the country "tends to approach" 500 dollars a month.

Belarusians hear the mantra about "five hundred dollar" salaries so often, that many of them are about to start believing in them. Here are three simple figures from official statistical reports that bring down to earth. Caution, hard landing is possible!

As the Kosht Urada analytical resource informs, according to the latest statistical data, 21.8% of the population in Belarus lives on less than 300 rubles a month. That is, in fact, one-fifth of the country's residents receive the disposable income, which is barely enough to pay for the most necessary things – utility services, products and medicines.

The second figure strikes even more: about 48% of the population gets a salary of less than 400 rubles a month. Thus, almost half of the country's inhabitants do not take home an amount equivalent to 200 dollars. Is it no wonder that talks about "five hundred dollar" salaries just cause indignation with Belarusians.

The third figure came from the statistical committee of neighboring Poland, in which they decided to calculate the level of the poverty line in this country. So this mark was at the level of 887 zł, which is equivalent to 205 euros or, attention, 475 Belarusian rubles!

It turns out that according to the standards of the neighboring country, which was several decades ago in the same economic disruption as Belarus, almost half the population of our state can be surely considered poor.

The following fact adds a lot of irony to this comparison: all this time one country was following the path of open market economy development, and the second was striving to create a "social state for the people."

As people say, one each does what one can.
