Pavel Seviarynets: Our Actions Help Us Get Law After Authorities
Pavel Seviarynets

The politician spoke about his 10 day arrest in Akrestsin Street.

Yesterday, after a 10-day arrest, BCD co-chairman Pavel Sevyarynets was released. Out of the gate, the politician informed svaboda.org about two things. One was good: they had returned the manuscript of the second book of the novel "Belarusalim" and allowed to use a pen – he had been writing on. The second one was bad: he had been kept in one cell with three HIV-infected people.

"The HIV-infected people are to be kept in separate rooms. The guys, of course, are not to blame, but those who were keeping them with me are to blame. And, apparently, they had been searching for one of the HIV-infected with the third stage (this is the last one before AIDS) throughout Minsk, so that he served 5 days for an offense committed in 2011. And when I asked why that was happening, the guards answered that there were a lot of such people. Although, I know for sure that there is a norm to keep such people separate from healthy ones. And, it came to light only at the end of the imprisonment, when I saw that they were taking special drugs," – Pavel said.

Pavel embraced, shook hands with everyone who came to meet him – and that was about two dozen people, – thanked everyone who had supported, prayed for him, brought care packages. He said that he had even seen through the window Maksim Viniarski’s release.

According to Seviarynets, most of the people were serving sentences for petty thefts, there were a lot of alcoholics, drug addicts who were in need of a dose.

"Everyone I talked to, even homeless and alcoholics, support the defenders of Kurapaty, condemn this restaurant on bones. I think the life of the restaurant owners will be getting harder and harder. On Friday, at 12 o'clock, we will hold a staff meeting on boycotting, we will discuss it and make a joint decision, as the defense is to be developed," – Pavel shared his immediate plans.

At different times, there were 4 to 6 people together with Pavel in the cell 8 on the second floor of the isolator. The attitude towards the prisoners was alright.

"The policemen were not falling into rage. Our actions help us get the law after the authorities. I believe that these endless complaints, the papers that we constantly write, have effect on them," – Seviarynets concludes.

As for food, he thanked his mother and everyone else for the packages.

"They told me a story in Akrestsina about a Nigerian who had come here on foot from Turkey, and when he had been given a bowl of local porridge, he had said: "Brrr, I'm not a criminal, I will not eat it."
