‘I Don’t Know A Single Person Who Would Rejoice Lukashenka’s Visit To Vorsha’

What do Vorsha residents say and think about the notorious blowup, which the dictator committed the other day?

Local civil activist Henadz Shapialiou told Solidarity about this.

- I’ll start with the fact that I don’t know a single person who would rejoice Lukashenka’s visit to our town. Everyone was outraged. The town’s roads were all blocked, it was impossible to move. They even stopped me on a bike and turned me away.

THE AUTHORITIES PLANNED TO MAKE VORSHA A SHOWCASE, HAVING PROMISED TO ‘RAISE IT FROM ASHES AND RUINS’

The Vorsha resident told that most of the people he knows perceive such visits as theatrical shows: “Everyone understands it clearly that all this is a show-off.”

However, there are still those who rejoice after watching TV, like, Lukashenka showed the officials their proper place. Still, there are not many such people, Henadz Shapialiou says.

THE REMAINING BUILDINGS OF THE FORMER VORSHA BREWERY

The interlocutor of the Solidarity also told about the reaction of the local officials he khows to the state leader’s visit to Vorsha:

- They complain they are sick of all this. They are pretty angry about such blowups. One of the local bosses even quoted a Russian classic: “The service? Good! Servility? Disgusting!”

Another official was outraged that Lukashenka dismissed Pazniak so early, without giving the latter an opportunity to watch around.

HENADZ SHAPIALIOU HAS BEEN ARRANGING THE KRAPIVENSKAYE FIELD NEAR VORSHA FOR DECADES

The Vorsha resident is skeptical about the rotation of local personnel. In his opinion, in any case, the new appointees will not be independent in their decisions and, like their predecessors, will always look back at Minsk.

The only thing that interests Henadz Shapialiou, is how the new administration this year will deal with the annual celebration of the battle of Vorsha:

- September is coming, let’s wait and see.
