Halina Smirnova: REP Trade Union Will Work!

On the day of the sentence pronouncement, the activists will gather near the Lukashenka administration to express their protest.

Activists of the trade union will appeal to the Lukashenka administration before the pronouncement of the sentence to Henadz Fiadynich and Ihar Komlik.

Leader of the Babruisk branch of the REP Halina Smirnova, the author of the initiative, commented on the situation for praca-by.info.

- Before going to the court to hear the verdict, we will go to the administration of Lukashenka and submit our appeals. I do not see what other effective measures can be taken in this situation. It would be desirable, that the appeals were submitted not only by Babruisk activists, but also members of trade union REP from other cities. I think that there will be a lot of people.

The activists plan to meet on August 24 at 10 am outside the Lukashenka administration at Karl Marx Street, 38. Halina Smirnova emphasizes that the submission of applications is not a mass event.

The leader of the Babruisk branch of the REP explains why the addressee of the appeal is Lukashenka:

- I believe that the court does not independently decide, and the criminal initiative comes from him. Not only Komlik and Fiadynich are being tried: this is pressure on the whole trade union! I was at all court hearings, I did not miss a single one! I wrote down every speech: witnesses and prosecutors. The fact that the case is politically motivated is evident even to those who were only at one hearing. This is a custom-made case. The persecution of Fiadynich and Komlik is the decapitation of the REP trade union. They need to punish someone, and punish the entire union. Maybe, formally, they did not touch the trade union, but created big problems for it.

Halina Smirnova added that the people who support the REP can join the activists of the trade union who will deliver their appeals to the administration of Lukashenka on August 24:

- Let them see that there are many of us. This is the biggest thing we can do now. The trade union will work! - and as one of the Babruisk activists said during the non-parasites marches, five new people will come to the place of one punished.
