Hrodna Activist Leaves Courtroom As Protest

The court rejected Mikalai Salianik's appeal.

The Hrodna regional court examined the appeal filed by activist Mikalai Salianik against the decision of the Kastrychnitski district court, Radio Racyja reports.

On August 17, judge Tatsiana Herhel fined him for 25 base fees for "violating the order of mass events" and "disobeying the lawful order or demand of officials in the exercise of judicial duties". Judge Uladzimir Yankouski examined the essence of the appeal and listened to the applicant. The appeal of Mikalai Salianik was rejected. He left the courtroom as a sign of protest. Journalist Yakub Sushchynski reports:

- The Hrodna regional court examined the case of Mikalai Salianik. He disagreed with the decision of the Kastrychnitski district court, according to which he was fined for BYN 620 or 25 base fees for alleged picketing and resistance to police officers during his detention on July 3 this year. The petitions submitted by Mikalai Salianik, namely, adjusting the audio and video materials that were recorded by chance witnesses of this incident, to the case, were overruled by the judge of the regional court Uladzimir Yankouski. As a sign of protest, Mikalai Salianik left the courtroom.

The judge's decision was made in the absence of Mikalai Salianik. He upheld the decision of the Kastrychnitski district court.

Salianik does not plan to appeal against the decision of the regional court, since he does not see any sense in this.
