KGB Detained Energy Sector Top Official

The director of the Belenerhasetspraect enterprise has been detained for taking bribes.

The KGB detained red-handed while taking a bribe Belenerhasetspraect director Andrei Karatkevitch, tut.by reports with reference to the department.

The illegal remuneration received by Andrei Karatkevitch was 20 thousand dollars. The deputy director general of the Integrated Dispatch Management enterprise, Uladzimir Vasilchankau, acted as a go-between.

"Karatkevitch and Vasilchankau organized illegal scheme to obtain bribes from representatives of commercial structures for creating conditions for winning tenders and inclusion suppliers’ equipment in projects," – the KGB’s press service informs.

A criminal case under Part. 3 Art. 430 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (bribery) was initiated against Belenerhasetspraect director, and under Part 2 Art. 432 of the Criminal Code (mediation in bribery) – against Vasilchankau.

The suspects were placed in the KGB detention center and made a confession.

Andrei Karatkevitch holds the honorary title of an Outstanding Worker of the Belarusian Energy System.

The main Belenerhasetspraect’s activity area is the development of design estimation documentation concerning electric grid construction and renovation. The enterprise was engaged in the construction of the Padlesnaya substation in Minsk (for power supply of the central part of the city), the Niazhynskaya substation, and the power generation projects designed for the Belarusian NPP under construction.
