Actions In Brest: Lukashenka Turns Belarusians Into ‘Ostarbeiters’

The regime’s police reminds the behaviour of occupants.

Two huge posters appeared at one of the central street in Brest (Karbyshau Street). In them, the parallels between the destiny of the ostarbeiters of the times of occupation of Belarus by the fascist Germany and the destiny of the contemporary Belarusian ostarbeiters are drawn. The Brest readers of Charter97.org reported this to the website’s editor’s office.

"75 years ago hundreds of thousands of Belarusians were forcibly exported by fascists to concentration camps and to heavy work in Germany. Children were taken from their parents, families disintegrated. Many could not stand the hard work, many did not return to their homeland.

In our peaceful days, hundreds of thousands of Belarusians are again forced to leave their homes and families and go to work in Germany, Poland and other countries. This time Lukashenka's regime has created intolerable working conditions in Belarus. To survive and feed the family, in search of better working conditions and decent salaries, Belarusians again filled the trains and buses going to the west, " Brest residents comment on the action.
