In Vorsha Unknown People Dug Out Burial Place Dating Back To Times Of Stalin's Repression

Perhaps this was an attempt to hide the traces of crimes.

The forest along the Mahiliou highway in Vorsha is one of the places of mass executions in the days of Stalinism. This place of shootings is less known in comparison to the Kabyliatskaya mountain, Radio Racyja informs.

Now a new residential district, Micro-District 3, has come very close to the death-penalty forest and some pits have marks indicating that they were opened.

"The pit has signs saying that it was excavated, – Yury Koptsik, a researcher of repressions in Vorsha, says.

– Perhaps this is an attempt to hide the traces of crimes, as it was in Kurapaty. The new microdistrict has come close the forest. And the situation that occurred on the Kabyliatskaya mountain in 1982, when during the construction the remains of those shot were found, is undesirable for the authorities. The situation can be repeated in the forest along the Mahiliou highway."

In the early 90's, the Vorsha Town Executive Committee planned to create a memorial sign at the place, where the shootings had taken place. That decision was reported by the regional newspaper Lenin’s Call, but the sign was never made.
