Lilliputian Apartments To Be Built In Belarus

The state intends to reduce the living space by 15%.

The Ministry of Architecture and Construction proposes to build apartments with a reduced area.

Minister of Architecture and Construction Dzmitry Mikulionak announced it, commenting on the draft strategy for the development of the construction industry in Belarus until 2025, which was discussed at a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers today, BelTA informs.

"We intend to propose apartment layouts (there is such a task already), which will be optimized in comparison with what we have on the market now, in order to optimize the cost of the apartment itself, that is, to reduce the area of the proposed one-room, two-room, three-room apartments by at least 10-15%," – Mikulionak said.

As for the quality of work, according to Mikulionak, this is not a question of strategy till 2025, but the current issue of responsibility for all those involved in construction.

State developers will also work more actively in the market of individual housing construction. "The main points in the construction industry development imply the orientation towards the mass consumer, we will unequivocally fight for the market of individual construction, where private entrepreneurs are engaged at the moment, but we intend to win back a part of the market," – the minister said.

One of the proposed innovations is the creation of an electronic database of construction projects, which, according to preliminary estimates, will help reduce the document circulation by half. Such an electronic system accumulates all the workflow of the construction process (from initial construction permits to facility demolition permits). This will allow to find the necessary documents during reconstruction, overhaul, which is problematic today, explained Mikulionak.

The Ministry of Architecture and Construction will also rotate the personnel in the industry and introduce new technologies, including for the maximum recycling of waste in industry.
