Tut.by Journalist Dzmitry Bobryk: I Was Recruited By Blackmail And Intimidation During Interrogation In Investigative Committee
DZMITRY BOBRYK

The journalist has admitted being recruited by special services during an interrogation on the "BelTA case".

Tut.by journalist Dzmitry Bobryk has admitted on his Facebook page that during an interrogation in the Investigative Committee on the "BelTA case" he was recruited by blackmail.

Dzmitry Bobryk says that after a three-hour search in the apartment on August 7, he was taken to the central office of the Investigative Committee. There direct threats against the journalist and his relatives were delivered.

"I understand that the facts I have presented may be unpleasant to my relatives and friends. I did not want to talk about it, but the situation forces me to do so.

After a three-hour search in the apartment on August 7, I was taken to the central office of the Investigative Committee. There, in the building of the Investigative Committee, where I was kept until late evening, I permitted myself to show weakness, to lose the nerve. There I heard direct threats addressed to me, to my relatives and friends. At first, they promised to disclose the details of my personal life if I refused to cooperate. And it ended up with threats against my relatives who might be harmed. I came over shivery at that point, the most important thing in my life were under threat. I wrote a paper about cooperation.

Still sitting in the IC, I realized that I would not do it – cooperate. I wouldn’t be able to look at myself in the mirror then.

After it became clear that they would not get any information from me, I was immediately transferred to a new status – a suspect.

After that, the pressure increased.

It makes me sick to think that I did not have the courage to refuse to cooperate in the IC. What calms me down a bit is the fact that had the moral courage not to do it actually.

I had to endure a lot. But I do not know what challenges there will be ahead, and I do not know if I have enough strength to withstand, but I cannot stay silent about it. I'm afraid that there will be further pressure on my family and friends," – Dzmitry Bobryk admits.

We remind that after the detentions on the "BelTA case," Charter97.org editor-in-chief Natallia Radzina warned that pressure might be used against the journalists to force them cooperate with intelligence agencies.
