Ivan Mayeuski: We Must Speak Belarusian

The player of the Belarus national football team is speaking about patriotic upbringing.

Player of the Belarus national football team Ivan Mayeuski replied to Nasha Niva’s question on whether he speaks Belarusian.

“Yes, I can speak Belarusian. However, sad but true, I haven’t used my mother tongue for a very long time. I played in Poland for a while, so many words just mixed up in my head.

I think that we must speak Belarusian. The very fact that the presentation was held in such a great place is a good sign. When I studied at school, I was very good at the Belarusian language, and I read a lot in Belarusian. I remember Vasil Bykau, Yanka Kupala, Yakub Kolas since then. These are the personalities everyone should know,” Mayeuski said.
