Independent Journalist To Be Tried For TV Piece On History In Belarus

Previously, the journalist was tried for a piece about a Lithuanian art exhibition.

Police officers opened a case under Article 22.9 of the Administrative Code of Part 2 (illegal production and distribution of media products) against Hrodna journalist Ales Kirkevich, Belsat reports.

The ground for initiating the case was the plot, which was shown on Belsat on December 7. Ales Kirkevich, as a Hrodna historian and journalist, helped to make material about the potential of the old Hrodna basements.

“It was a completely historical piece, no politics. Previously, I was tried in 2015, then we made a piece about a Lithuanian art exhibition. The operator and I were convicted for alleged illegal production of media products,” – Ales Kirkevich said.
