Two Activists Detained After Event In Memory Of Mikhail Zhyzneuski In Minsk

The meeting has taken place near the Ukrainian Embassy in Belarus.

After the event in memory of Mikhail Zhyzneuski near the Ukrainian embassy in Minsk on January 22, the chairman of the Young Front, Dzianis Urbanovich, and Volha Nikalaichyk were detained.

The Young Front telegram-channel has posted a video of the detention. It shows how five men in civilian clothes are forcing two people in a minibus, followed by activist Nina Bahinskaya, but one of the men in civilian clothes is pushing her away, Radio Svaboda writes.

The author of the video has given the detainees’ names – Dzianis Urbanovich and Volha Nikalaichyk, and added that they could be taken to the Tsentalny district police department of Minsk. The police do not comment on the incident.

“We were holding a meeting in memory of Mikhail Zhyzneuski in the park behind the Ukrainian embassy near the monument to Shevchenko. We were followed by police officers, riot police, I do not know who they were, they did not introduce themselves. We took a bus to Victory Square, then walked to TsUM, from TsUM went back on foot. Dzianis Urbanovich was detained then,” – the man on the video says.

These words have been confirmed by Nina Bahinskaya, she also adds that six people took part in the event, at least two participants were detained.

On January 22, 2014, Belarusian Euromaidan activist Mikhail Zhyzneuski died from a gunshot wound in the heart in Kiev.
