Data Related To Radiation Background Near Belarusian NPP Classified Till Reactors Launch

The Astravets NPP is being prepared for tests with simulators of nuclear fuel.

The day before, in the vicinity of the station, the so-called “zero metering” of radiation was also carried out, Belsat reports. The Ministry of Energy and the invited responsible organizations reported on preparations for the launch and risk assessments to the public. However, is the official research trustworthy?

When building a nuclear object, there is no way they should rush to fulfill the plan. They promise that every mechanism inside will be thoroughly tested. Outside, they conducted field measurements of the level of radiation around nuclear power plants and water measurements in three sections of the Viliya river.

The final report on the “zero background” (that is, the background before the start of the reactors) will be made public only in December - just before the launch of the first power block of the nuclear facility.

The first BelNPP unit in Astravets is already 95% ready and will start operating this year, the second is 70% ready, its launch is scheduled for next year. Even before that, they promised to install dosimeters around the perimeter of the Astravets station, which would allow every citizen to monitor the content of radionuclides in the air through the Internet.

Scotland, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, and Taiwan have completely abandoned nuclear energy. Three weeks ago, the US energy company Exelon Corp closed the last reactor of the Three Mile emergency station. These countries are switching to renewable energy, while Belarus is just getting ready for the delivery of nuclear fuel to Astravets.
