Viacheslau Kasinerau: Something Is Being Prepared Against Paliyenka
VIACHESLAU KASINERAU

The latest developments cause to fall on certain considerations.

The start of the trial of public activist Dzmitry Paliyenka was scheduled for September 25, but ... Suddenly the judge fell ill, and the trial was postponed for an indefinite period of time. It has been two weeks since then, but the new trial date has not been set yet.

A representative of the anarchist movement, Viacheslau Kasinerau, told Radio Racyja why, in his opinion, the trial of the activist Dzmitry Paliyenka had been postponed:

Certain events lead to certain thoughts. Dzmitry's trial was supposed to begin on September 25. And suddenly, just half an hour before the trial, we found out that the judge was sick and the trial was postponed. And this despite the fact that Dzmitry had been brought to court, it means that they planned to start the trial, which was then sharply canceled and have not been able to continue it for two weeks. What kind of illness does the judge have?

- Your explanation?

- It seems to me that at that moment it was unfavorable for the authorities to start the trial, so they took a break to decide how to proceed and what decision to make next.

I think now everything will depend on whether there is public reaction to the "Paliyenka's case". If there is, then it is possible to at least halve the term that threatens Dzmitry. Naturally, no one will fully justify him, our system does not work like this.

- Or maybe they decided not to hold the trial precisely because at that time, during the "Minsk dialogue", high European guests were expected in the Belarusian capital?

- I do not exclude this, but in this case there may be very bad consequences. The authorities will wait for the Europeans to leave and pass a harsh sentence behind closed doors. This may happen. In any case, the postponement of the trial means that something is being prepared against Dzmitry Paliyenka. Time will tell whether it is for the better or for the worse.
