Brest Citizens On Square Outraged About Maryja Halaliuk's "Case"

Brest Citizens On Square Outraged About Maryja Halaliuk's "Case"

The authorities have double standards.

In the afternoon of October 13, opponents of the battery factory gathered again on Lenin Square in Brest.

The participants of the meeting discussed the decision of the Brest district court, which considered the administrative case of the man who attacked Maryja Halaliuk, an opponent of the battery factory, on October 10. The court found the attacker guilty and fined him 12 basic units (Br306), the Brest Newspaper reports.

During the meeting in the square, the activists expressed their indignation at the soft, in their opinion, punishment. They believe that the court "was not impartial". The video, made by an activist, showing the moment of attacking Halaliuk and her beating, was not watched during the trial. The activists noted that the opponents of the plant were fined "larger amounts for less significant violations".

Also, opponents of the plant discussed the participation of their activists in the parliamentary elections. We remind that Aliaksandr Kabanau from Biaroza, a member of the United Civil Party and a blogger, filed documents in the election commission of the Brest Zakhodni constituency No. 1, Raman Kisliak - to the Brest Tsentralny constituency No. 2, Alena Makarevich - to the Brest Uskhodni constituency No. 3, and Uladzimir Maroz - to Brest Pahranichny constituency No. 4. Kisliak, Makarevich and Maroz are nominated by signature collecting, Kabanau - from the UCP.

The traditional meeting of the activists ended with a procession through the central streets of the city.
