Tax Authorities Took Interest In Belarusians Who Own Several Apartments

They have to pay by November 15.

Now there are more than 220 thousand people in Belarus, who own two or more residential premises (for example, apartments). This number has almost doubled over the past five years, the Ministry of Taxes and Levies informs, tut.by reports.

If a person has one apartment (or, say, one room in an apartment), he does not have to pay the property tax. However, if there are two or more of them, only one of them will be exempted from the tax. It is necessary to pay for the rest of them. This year, the number of people who own more than one dwelling in an apartment building exceeds 220 thousand people.

- The largest number of them lives in Minsk, it's more than 67 thousand people. In other regions, it's from 20 to 28 thousand people on average, slightly more in Homel region - 35 thousand - Mikhail Rassolka, head of the main department of taxation of natural persons of the Ministry of Taxes and Levies, cites the statistics.

Mikhail Rassolka notes that there are more and more such taxpayers every year.

- A few years ago, there were just over 100,000 of them. That is, over the past five years, their number has almost doubled, - Mikhail Rassolka said. - Among them there is a large number of those who own an apartment and a room. For example, a three-room apartment is inherited by three children. It turns out that someone can have their own apartment and another room in another one.

Mikhail Rassolka reminded that a person can choose which of his premises he will pay tax on. But if he does not notify the tax authorities, he will be automatically given a benefit for the first apartment he owns.

The deadline for payment of real estate tax and land tax is November 15.
