The struggle is just beginning.

Today it became known that the authorities refused to register Iryna Khalip as a parliamentary candidate nominated by the European Belarus civil campaign.

The well-known Belarusian journalist commented on the response of the authorities to Charter97.org:

“I assumed they wouldn't register me. It's one thing when you collect signatures around people’s apartments, do it privately, and conversations with people take place in a kitchen format, face to face.

The agitation period is something completely different, the same as the provision of air on the state television and radio. It is clear that the authorities could let to the air neither me, nor Maksim Viniarski, who was also not registered. The authorities were frightened and did not even try to come up with a reason that could be conditionally accepted. Then we would say: “Yes, okay, we miscalculated here, made a mistake that they used against us.” No, the authorities didn’t even do that.

I can say that the whole team of the European Belarus worked till exhaustion for a month. We tried to do everything possible to prevent such errors, not to give trump cards in the hands of the authorities. We succeeded in that.

You see, everything was perfect on our part. Not all sheets were handed over to the CEC. If our team had even the slightest suspicion that there might be something wrong, there might be at least some slightest corrections - we did not hand them over. There was absolutely nothing to complain about.

As you can see, the authorities did not even try. They came up with some implausible version that supposedly all signatures were reliable, but the dates were not. Allegedly, the dates were not put down by voters, but by someone else. It was as if I had collected signatures since kindergarten years and thought: “Maybe someday they will come in handy.” And now they come in handy! Such a fairy tale, such a fantasy.

Well, for me, nothing has changed. I will work as I did before.

Only now, not within the Partyzanski electoral district, but within the entire city. After all, they did register one of our people. The same Volha Nikalaichyk. So imagine that Maksim Viniarski and I will become her authorized representatives. Nothing is changing. We set ourselves completely different tasks when we started participating in this election campaign. It is not over, it is just beginning. I can promise that it will become extremely exciting, bright and memorable.
