Great Britain Comments on "Elections" in Belarus

The British Foreign Ministry criticized Lukashenka's "parliamentary elections".

The United Kingdom expressed disappointment that the parliamentary "elections" in Belarus, held on November 17, failed to meet international democratic standards, the statement published on the website of the British Foreign Ministry says.

The statement was made after examining the preliminary report of the observation mission of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the OSCE, naviny.by reports with reference to BelaPAN.

We are also concerned about the OSCE findings that the electoral environment was overly restrictive, did not provide for any meaningful competition, while the basic democratic rights were also restricted," the statement says. - We call on the government of Belarus to work to address these issues in order to strengthen the Belarusian democracy and provide voters and candidates with the opportunity to participate fully in the democratic process".
