Their great-grandfathers personally knew Kastus Kalinouski and led the uprising in 1863 in Belarus and Lithuania. One was exiled to Siberia, while the other survived only due to corruption of the royal officials. The Russian authorities and fate brought them to Poland, near Warsaw.
