Is such army capable of defending the country?

The Telegram channel “Basta!” published another letter from the reader - about the problems of the Belarusian army:

- A couple of days ago a runaway soldier fled from a military unit near Lepel. As always in such cases, there were no comments either about the reasons, or about the consequences of the “voluntarily leave”. This is the logic of an ostrich: burying one’s head in the sand, the problem not visible is the problem nonexistent.

This position speaks where our army is (spoiler: in the same place as the whole country may soon find itself) louder than any official statements by the Ministry of Defense.

Hazing is not born from scratch. Practice shows that in any places where people are in varying degrees of isolation and at the same time suffer deprivation, an hierarchy is formed. In a healthy body that functions properly, it is official, built on the basis of logic. In the unhealthy - unofficial, on the basis of brute physical strength, fear and humiliation.

It’s not a secret to anyone that the Belarusian army not only does not fight hazing at the leadership level, but encourages it. In the absence of patriotic education, this is the only way to maintain the appearance of discipline and control. In another way, in a collective where they take superiors as some prison guards (and the majority does not deserve a different attitude) it is impossible. Those who were in prison will understand. Parallels are visible to the naked eye.

Fear, threats and humiliation are the only way to keep subordinate those who do not respect you. This system is being formed in Belarus at all levels, but the army serves as the best example, because of similar cases that become known to the media.

You can escape from a military unit, flee from the country. But what you can also do is try to change something here.

Is it worth changing something in our army, is it possible under the current government? Parents raising sons should ask themselves this question.

Is such army capable of defending the country? This question is relevant for all of us.
