We must get rid of the myth that we are "tolerant people".

Yauhen Afnahel, European Belarus coordinator, said so in an interview to Studio X97:

- What would you change in our school history textbooks?

- I would change the approach itself. This is because the school history textbooks are written according to Soviet models. They may contain some information about the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Belarusian People's Republic, but the approach itself supposes that we are a secondary nation, that Belarusians cannot do without Russia, that Belarusians are allegedly not independent, that we have no history of our own and have nothing to be proud of. This idea gets into the heads at school.

This approach should be changed. For the Belarusians actually have a lot to be proud of. Belarusians are a great nation. Belarusians managed not only to survive but to assert themselves in hopeless situations. To assert their nation, their country. During the Russian occupation, Belarusians rose up in desperate situations every 30 years. There have been very few such cases in the world history. That is, every 30 years Belarusians rebelled against the strongest empire in the world at that time.

The Belarusians need to get rid of the myth that they are tolerant, calm, downtrodden and harassed people. This is the most important thing. This myth was confirmed by the Russian propaganda, then by the Soviet propaganda. It is also asserted by the Lukashenka propaganda. In fact, a lot of things were and continue to be hidden from the Belarusians. The anti-Soviet movement started with the opening of the truth about Kurapaty, about the Stalinist executions, with the opening of the truth about Chernobyl. But the key point is that the Belarusians are heroic, brave, bright people.
