The Minsk city court has made the sentence.
The Minsk city court has sentenced academician, laureate of the State Award, renown doctor Aliaksandr Bialetski to 7,5 years of imprisonment. He was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 430 of the Criminal Code of the Republiuc of Belarus (taking a large-scale bribe), tut.by reports.
The academician was found guilty and sentenced to 7 years and 6 months of imprisonment in the reinforced-security colony, with the confiscation of property. The prosecutor had earlier requested the same.
Aliaksandr Bialetski arrived to the court five minutes before the hearing. His friends and family were waiting for him near the courtroom, about twenty people in total. Bialetski seemed calm before the pronouncement of the sentence, talked to people, then sat down on the bench and folded his hands together.
The sentence has not entered into legal force yet. Bialetski was taken under guard right in the courtroom, and handcuffed.
Before July 2018, Bialetski headed the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics. During the court sessions, the academician did not deny he had received $ 3 K and EUR 4 K as a gift. Herein, he did not think of this money as a bribe. One of the mentioned sums was spent on the congress in Barcelona, where the Belarusian delegation consisted of 12 people.
Bialetski said in court he repented of what he had done.
- The worst thing ever is self-chastising. It is worse than any trial, prosecutor, or investigator, - he said.
As for the big sums that were found in his house and deposits, he said they were given to him by his wealthy friends in no connection with his professional activities. One of such friends is businessman Aliaksandr Shakutsin.
Previously, the KGB Head Valer Vakulchyk reported that $ 500K in the equivalent was found during the search in Bialetski’s garage and the place of residence, in caches.
Aliaksandr Bialetski is a unique specialist in his field. He is a famous scientist and academician. He has over 450 printed scientific works, including 16 monographies, eight of which have been published abroad. For his professional activity, he has prepared six candidates and four doctors of medical sciences.
In October, when Aliaksandr Bialetski was held in the remand prison, he was awarded with a medal of the National Academy of Sciences. He grew up in the family of doctors and has been children’s orthopedician for all of his life. He has conducted 4000 high-technology complicated surgeries.
Apart from that, he has 92 patents in treatment of children with pathologies of coxofemoral joints, in 2010 he got a title “Honoured Scientific Figure”. He is an Excellent Worker of Public Health of Russia, Uzbekistan and Belarus, gave lectures in many countries of the world, held a speech in the American Association of Operating Surgeons. According to what he said in court, he saved the money received for the State Award, for patents, and monographies.
It was him who developed new technologies of surgical treatment of orthopedic pathologies of the coxofemoral joints of children and teenagers. For this, he received the State Award in the field of science and technology. He headed the work on creation of Belarusian implants and metallic constructions in traumatology and oprthopedics.
