The meeting participants discussed the situation with human rights in Belarus.
On Monday, February 18, the chairman of the human rights organization Viasna, Ales Bialiatski, met with the EU Delegation in Belarus and with the European Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, Günther Oettinger.
The meeting participants discussed the situation with human rights in Belarus, as well as the complications that the Belarusian authorities create in the work of civil organizations.
As human rights activist Ales Bialiatski noted, any funding must be subject to certain conditions.
“The financial assistance of the European Union should not be unconditional. We expect the Belarusian authorities to make systemic changes in the situation with human rights, democratic principles and the fair trial in Belarus,” – Ales Bialiatski said.
