Belarusian Authorities Produced One-Tenth As Many Belgee Cars As Planned

The majority of the cars are sold to Russia.

First Deputy Minister of Industry of Belarus Hennadz Sviderski hopes that sales of Geely cars will grow this year.

According to the official, in 2019, they plan to double the production volumes of Geely cars. Two crossovers and a sedan are already in mass production; more than 10 thousand cars have left the assembly line in total: 65% of them have been purchased by private individuals, 35% – by organizations.

As Radio Svaboda notes, this is 10 times less than the Belarusian authorities wanted.

Approximately the same ratio is expected this year.

The Vice Minister clarifies that the number of people employed in manufacturing has increased significantly: from 500 to 1,200 people.

As for sales markets, this is, first of all, Belarus and Russia, Sviderski says. Moreover, most of the cars are delivered to Russia – 65%, the rest are sold to Belarusian consumers.

Hennadz Sviderski adds that the car is assembled from components that originate from three countries: China, Belarus and Russia. The level of localization is 50% – this means that half of the spare parts are produced in Belarus.

The Belarusian-Chinese CJSC BelGee, which produces cars under the Geely brand, was created in 2011. In February 2013, the company assembled the first car, and last year, on November 17, a factory for assembling complete car units was solemnly opened between Barysau and Zhodzina. The design capacity will be 60 thousand cars annually at the first stage, at the second – 120 thousand cars.
