They seem to be scared by the creativity of the villagers in the Lelchitsy district department of internal affairs.
The guys from the village of Hlushkavichy, who made a 5-meter high snowman with a white-red-white flag and the “Pahonia” coat-of-arms on it, report being summoned to the police. The minors were invited to their school for a talk, with parents.
Viktar Sniahur, who told Euroradio about the snowman in the morning of February 1, said that he also received a call from the Lelchitsy district police department. He refused to come. But some (only 8 people worked on the snowman) decided not to trun down the “invitation”.
According to the interlocutor, the guys were summoned to the head of the criminal investigation department of the Lelchitsy district police department:
“They asked what they had against the government and why they attached the flag. The guys responded that it were national symbols, and they decided to decorate the snowman with them. It was not a protest or anything else. Then Sakalouski [acting deputy head of the Lelchitsy district police department] said he had no more questions: “Write an explanatory note.” The guys wrote, that is, they explained that this was not a political action.
The underaged guys were called to school with their parents. There, teachers began to curse parents and children, they said, this is a prohibited flag and we can be fired for it. Like, what are you doing, this is not our flag! Parents explained to them that this coat-of-arms is a historical and cultural value of Belarus and is even placed on the emblems of a number of Belarusian cities. However, they do not teach it to kids at schools.”
In the front office of the Lelchitsy district department of internal affairs they did not confirm that today one of the residents of the village of Hlushkavichy was detained, brought in or summoned for a “conversation”.
A 5-meter snowman with a historical Belarusian flag and coat-of-arms appeared on January 31 in a private household in the village of Hlushkavichy, Lelchitsy District. It took three days to make it. The photo with the snowman and its authors has become viral.
