Activist Vital Kazak Detained In Brest Again

Activist Vital Kazak Detained In Brest Again
Vital Kazak

Most likely, he will be tried on Monday.

Activist Vital Kazak was detained in Brest on March 15, human rights activist Uladzimir Vialichkin has reported. This information has been confirmed to the Brest newspaper by the temporary detention facility of the Leninski district police department. Kazak will stay in the detention facility until Monday.

According to Vialichkin, in the afternoon, Kazak was summoned to the police department in Naberazhnaya Street. A few hours later he was taken to the Leninski district police department of Brest to “sign papers and be released.” Soon after, the activist's phone became unavailable.

The human rights activist said that Kazak was summoned to the police on two episodes: because of a statement by an employee of the housing department, whom Kazak didn’t let to take away the flowers he had brought to the construction site fence, and because of the commemorative event he had held in Savetskaya Street on March 13. The activist laid out a path made of flowers and burning lamps to the arch of the house, symbolizing the final journey of the Jews going to be shot. A few hours later, Kazak and a friend picked up all the flowers and lamps and carried them to the monument of the Brest ghetto.

Vital Kazak has repeatedly attracted the attention of the authorities and the public to the topic of housing construction at the site where hundreds of people were shot during the war, and demanded to stop the construction of a house in favor of a memorial or a public garden. After one of the events, he was fined 20 basic units – 510 rubles.

As already reported, a mass grave of the Great Patriotic War was found at the construction site of an elite quarter, located within the boundaries of Savetskaya, Dzerzhinsky, Kuibyshev streets and Masherau Avenue.
