The Ukrainian political prisoner launched a hunger strike in the courtroom.

In Russia, the North Caucasian District Military Court sentenced 19-year-old Ukrainian citizen Pavel Grib to six years in prison, nv.ua reports.

“To recognize Pavel Grib as guilty of forcing the Russian Tatyana Ershova to act of terrorism and sentence him to 6 years of imprisonment with serving in a penal colony,” – the judge said.

Ukrainian disappeared in Homel, Belarus, in August 2017. He was later found in a detention center in the Russian Krasnodar.

As previously reported, during the judicial debate on the case of the Ukrainian political prisoner Pavel Grib, the prosecutors asked for the Ukrainian six years of imprisonment.

Earlier, the father of political prisoner, Igor Grib, said that Pavel Grib, who was illegally detained in Russia, probably had symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

On December 21, 2018, the court refused to place political prisoner Grib under house for health reasons. The supervisory commission in the Russian Federation called the remand prison conditions “suitable for keeping a political prisoner.”

At trial, the witness for the prosecution testified in favor of the Ukrainian political prisoner Grib, partly rejecting her previous words. Two witnesses in the case of the Ukrainian political prisoner Pavel Grib could not explain the differences in their testimony at the investigation stage and during the court hearing.

After the announcement of the sentence, which was 6 years in prison, Pavel Grib went on a hunger strike.

He said that in a commentary to a Gromadsky journalist, who was present in the courtroom.

“Due to the fact that they didn’t allow the doctors, Denisova, and in general because of what is being done, I declare a hunger strike,” – Pavel said.
