Siarhei Piatrukhin: I Will Go On

The blogger will continue to expose the lawlessness of the authorities.

This morning, the Leninski district court of Brest passed a verdict in a criminal case against the famous Brest blogger, laureate of the National Prize for the Protection of Human Rights for 2018 in two nominations, Siarhei Piatrukhin. According to the verdict, the blogger is obliged to pay 8631 dollars within a month.

The Charter97.org website has contacted Siarhei Piatrukhin and found out the details:

– In my example, the authorities want to show people that we are all closely watched. They can do anything with anyone of us: fine, award a sentence. Only the technique of crime is changing.

If they do it with public people, about whom the media write, then needless to say about ordinary people. The authorities can destroy them and no one will know about it.

My trial was politically motivated, closed. Only employees of the Leninski district police department were present. Human rights defenders were kicked out.

I think this is such a signal to the police: “Look, guys, we officially support you. Do whatever you want. We will protect you in the courts, prosecutors’ offices. It's okay. We are with you.”

– In that case, what do you intend to do next?

– Appeal the verdict.

–- And then?

– I will continue to do what I have been doing. I will continue to cover cases of lawlessness of the police and authorities.
