Growing Number Of Drivers Boycott Motor Vehicle Inspection

There's an entire community of people who refuse go through MOT test out of principle.

The state duty for the right of admission of the car to participate in the traffic was introduced in early 2014. And on sensations, the number of car owners who go through MOT test decreases every year, onliner.by writes.

An entire community of people who refuse go through MOT test out of principle has been formed – just not to pay the “fee”, the distribution of which is still under lock and key. According to the data of Beldziarzhtekhahliad, the number of such drivers continues to grow. During the first quarter, only one of thirteen car owners went through the test.

One of the well-known figures describing the scale of rejecting the state inspection was announced at the end of 2017. More than half of the cars registered in Belarus were driven without technical inspection, Beldziarzhtekhahliad deputy director Uladzimir Piulski said then. A few days ago, Beldziarzhtekhahliad summed up the results of the first quarter of 2019. Judging by the statistics, there are still no positive changes: “225,247 permits were issued to allow vehicles to participate in the traffic, which is 2.8% less than during the same period last year.” We remind that about 3 million cars have been registered in Belarus.

There is another rather interesting figure in the official statistics of the unitary enterprise. “In the first quarter, the most significant reduction in the issuance of permits was recorded in March – 6.8%,” – Beldziarzhtekhahliad informed. Why did that happen? On April 1, the deputies promised to introduce changes in the rules for charging the road charge. In waiting for clearness and not wanting to overpay (they promised a 20 percent discount when paying for the year) motorists decided to hold off on payment. They said they were going to separate the transportation fee from the vehicle inspection and provide for the possibility of paying it monthly. In the end, however, the miracle did not happen. It was decided to postpone the decree on changing payments – to weigh all the pros and cons. In fact, it was clear that the structures involved in the implementation were not ready: for example, the payment control had to be carried out by the cameras automatically. Obviously, combining the data of all cameras is a very difficult task.

The depressing statistics causes increased control. “The State Traffic Police carried out raids to identify vehicles operated with faults, which make their participation in the traffic prohibited, as well as those that have not undergone the state inspection and the procedure for issuing permits to allow the car to participate in thetraffic, – Beldziarzhtekhahliad reports. – For the first quarter, 283 joint raids have already been carried out, more than 1,400 violations have been identified. It is not difficult to guess that this work will be continued.
