Belarusian banks reduce their foreign assets

They have decreased by more than a billion over the quarter.

According to the National Bank, as of April 1, 2019, 28 banks are registered in Belarus, of which four banks are in the process of bankruptcy or liquidation. The total registered authorized capital of operating banks increased by 30 million rubles since the start of 2019. On April 1, 2019, its value amounted to 5482.5 million rubles, writes Ezhednevnik news outlet.

As of April 1, 2019, banks' assets amounted to 74276.1 million rubles and increased by 0.8% since the beginning of 2019. At the same time, the National Bank notes, the share of assets in foreign currency decreased from 55.1% on January 1, 2019 to 53.3% on April 1, 2019. In absolute figures, the assets of Belarusian banks in foreign currency decreased from 40.6 billion rubles to 39.5 billion rubles, that is, more than a billion in just three months.

The share of claims to the economy in terms of banks' assets was 66.8% on April 1, 2019 (while in January 1, 2019 it was 67.2%). As of April 1, 2019, the regulatory capital of existing banks amounted to 10,229.2 million rubles and decreased compared to January 1, 2019 by 244.1 million rubles. However, regulatory capital adequacy increased from 17.7% (January 1, 2019) to 18.1% (April 1, 2019).

The profitability of regulatory capital on an annualized basis was 11.2% as of April 1, 2019. Compared to April 1, 2018, the profitability of regulatory capital on an annualized basis increased by 2.1 percentage points, the National Bank said.
