Activists Picketed District Executive Committee In Lida

The Lida residents called on officials to pay attention to the environment.

Two men came to the local district executive committee with a poster "Dead Dzitva" in Lida to draw attention to the environmental disaster in the Dzitva River. The picket took place on June 17 and lasted for several minutes, tut.by writes.

We remind that fish die in the Dzitva River, which is a tributary of the Nioman, for the second year in a row. People complain about the emissions of the Lida treatment facilities, while the town''s housing and utility sector assures that they are not to blame. The Dzitva River flows near the dacha village in Darzhy and the village of Kaniushany. Now, according to the dacha residents, the water in the reservoir is dark grey-brown and smells very unpleasant. The other day, public activists inspected the territory of the reservoir and found a pipe from which dirty water flows. They filmed the situation on video. And on Monday they came out with a poster to the district executive committee.

- We have come to the district executive committee to draw attention to the ecological disaster in the river Dzitva. And to remind people that this situation with the river is simply unacceptable. We sincerely hoped that everything would be improved, but the dirty water is still pouring out of that pipe. We stayed near the district executive committee not for long in order not to be detained, because the aim is to draw attention to the problem, - Biarozauka resident Vitold Ashurak says.

Specialists of the nature protection and Lida housing and communal services preliminary say that the fish plague occurred, as it used to be, due to hot weather. Water samples have been taken and the results are not yet known.
