More Than 500 People Took Part In March In Brest

There has been a rally against the battery factory in the city.

Yesterday more than 300 people came to the traditional rally against the battery factory on Lenin Square in Brest, the correspondent of Charter97.org reports.

"People do not believe the authorities and instead of meeting with the "mayor" have come to the square," - the correspondent from Brest reports.

The meeting with Brest Head Aliaksandr Rahachuk on the problems of ecology and the battery plant, announced by the authorities, was supposed to take place in the Brest Trade Union Palace of Culture at that time. But, as the journalists note, the hall is almost empty, no one has come to the meeting.

At 12.50 p.m., the protesters started their march from Lenin Square along the central streets of Brest.

More than 400 people are taking part in the march - more than in all previous ones, the Charter97.org correspondent reports.

The procession has stretched for several hundred meters.

"People have learned not to believe officials. If the mayor wants to talk to us, we are waiting in the square," - one of the procession participants says.

Passers-by are joining the march, more than 500 people are already taking part, the Brest correspondent reports.

The march has reached the Central Department Store, and the people have dispersed today, but they intend to continue their protests.
