"People To Take To Square Untill There's Lock On Plant"

A new phase of protests has begun in Brest.

The battery plant near Brest has not passed the third environmental impact assessment. But the protests and feeding of pigeons in the center of Brest continue. Protesters say that "pigeons saved Brest". But they are not sure that the authorities will close the plant. Therefore, protests will continue until the issue is resolved: the plant is locked, Belsat reports.

"People will continue coming to the square until the lock at the plant appears. That is, until there is no final decision that the plant is being closed, the plant will be reoriented, we will continue coming. After all, we have been deceived more than once."

"There are good laws in Belarus, but the executive power has shown itself to be a very weak link during these one and a half years. And this weak link needs help. And who will help it, if not us - Brest citizens? These are the choice options, in fact. So here we are helping."

Protesters do not limit their assistance to the country to fighting against a harmful enterprise. Inspired by the success, the participants of the walks are going to move to the "House of Representatives".

"The initiative group decided to participate in the parliamentary elections. There are 4 districts in Brest nowadays. Candidates for deputies will be nominated in each district. I think that Brest citizens will support these people, and I would like to show the whole country how the parliamentary elections should be held," - Aliaksandr Kabanau, an opponent of the plant, said.

Symbolic protests against the plant in the form of Sunday marches and mass feeding of pigeons have been going on for more than a year and a half.

Earlier, iPower suspended work on the decision of Anatol Lis, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of Brest region, and the KGB initiated a criminal case against the co-founder of the plant, Viktar Lemiasheuski, for taking and giving bribes.
